The market put in a quiet session today with little change. The major averages opened little changed and mostly went sideways from there. All the major averages finished near where they started in the lower half of their intraday trading ranges. Volume was lower across the board, partially due to the eclipse. Leading stocks were little changed as well with the leaders index lower by only .03% on the day. The index closed high in its trading range on lower and well below average volume. The market did very little today as we await economic news later in the week. The CPI report comes out on Wednesday and the PPI on Thursday. On Friday earnings season kicks off with a few big banks reporting. The market appears to be under some stress and few leading stocks are producing meaningful gains. We will get some volatility with the inflation announcements and earnings season starting, but it still appears to be a high risk market and caution is advised. Jerry
