• Portfolio Management for May 12, 2016

Early in the day yesterday, I opened two 1/2 short positions in CERN and HOLX.

Then, I noticed that money was moving into WNR, which was much oversold. I opened a 1/2 long there at 10:28, but by the time I sent an email at 10:31, oil had bounced (at 10:29:30) on some unexpected report and algos pushed the energy sector up within seconds.

It is very unusual for a stock to move as soon as I enter a position. Usually, it moves much later or even fails. My trade directional success rate is 52.8%. So, it is clear that the WNR move was just pure luck.

Late in the day, I also shorted 1/2 a GDX position as the MF looked rather weak during the afternoon bounce. I intend to close that position today because if tomorrow's PPI is weaker than expected, gold will move higher.

The trade ideas for today are below. I intend to increase the short positions.
