It was an up and down session today. After early gains the major averages sold off into negative territory before rallying again. Some late weakness saw them finish off their highs but still in positive territory. They closed in the upper half of their intraday trading ranges. The COMPQ gained .25% while the SPX was up by .21%. Volume was mixed, higher on the Nasd and lower on the New York. Leading stocks had another day of outperformance with the leaders index gaining .85% on lower and slightly below average volume. The index closed in the upper half of it’s trading range and made new highs on both a price and a relative strength basis. It remains a difficult environment to make any progress in. I have said it before, but mild expectations combined with early buys and taking quick profits is the best strategy right now. Jerry
