I recently read the article about a new FO cable between NY and London - not for internet or voice , nope a cable for financial data only for traders.

So this new cable will be 310 miles shorter than the current cable, which will give HFT about 5-millisecond advantage over the current line... b.t.w 1m/sec = $100 million a year....

here is the link : http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/engineering/infrastructure/a-transatlantic-cable-to-shave-5-milliseconds-off-stock-trades

"Hibernia Atlantic is spending $300 million for a new transatlantic cable to save six milliseconds in transmission time. Reason: reportedly, a one-millisecond advantage could be worth up to $100 million a year to the bottom line of a large hedge fund"
