The market had another volatile session today. After opening mixed the major averages went to decent gains before late selling erased the gains. All the major averages finished low in their intraday trading ranges. The COMPQ and the NDX were pretty much flat with a gain of .01% and a loss of .04% respectively. The SPX declined .21%. Volume was lower across the board. Leading stocks were mostly higher on the day. The leaders index gained 2.29% on the session. The index closed low in its trading range on lower and below average volume. The market was up and down today, mostly on oil prices. They fell on a report of escorts through the Straits of Hormuz but moved up when it turned out not to be true. The market pretty much followed oil prices. Right now, is a tough time to be playing the market. Things are all over the place right now and taking positions in either direction is risky. ORCL came out with a well-received earnings report after the close, but futures right now are little changed. There are three inflation reports coming out over the next three days and they could affect the market. It’s a good time to be on the sidelines until things settle down. Jerry
