The market had a mixed session today with the major averages showing modest gains. The major averages opened higher and after rallying to good gains they sold off. Some late buying saw they major averages close with moderate gains. All the major averages finished in the lower half of their intraday trading ranges. The COMPQ and the NDX were higher by .59% and .56% respectively. The SPX gained .38%. Volume was lower across the board. Leading stocks were higher on the day. The leaders index gained 1.32% on the session. The index closed in about the middle of its trading range on lower and below average volume. The market had a mixed session today, but closed with slightly higher prices. Overall it wasn’t a strong session. While the major averages closed higher they gave up larger early gains. Market internals were also negative. The major averages came close to their 50dma’s at their highs, but were turned back. Breaking above this important resistance would be a big plus. After the close NVDA reported good numbers and the stock is trading higher in after market trading, as of this writing. The market should open higher tomorrow based on NVDA and futures prices, but the real test will be how it closes. A strong close will be encouraging while a weak close would indicate lower prices ahead. Jerry
