The market sold off late but still put in decent gains on the day. The major averages opened mixed and rallied to nice gains. Late selling came in and some of the gains were lost, but the major averages still finished in the upper half of their intraday trading ranges. The COMPQ and the NDX gained .65% and .72% respectively. The SPX was higher by .37%. Volume was mixed, higher on the New York and lower on the NASD. Leading stocks were higher as well. The leaders index lagged a bit today due to weakness in a couple of components, but other baskets of leading stocks did better. The leaders index gained .39% on lower but still strong volume. Despite the late selling the market put in a decent bounce today. Market internals were good and the equal weighted ETFs of the major averages did well. The market staged good early gains today, but late selling saw some of those gains lost. It is disappointing that the market didn’t finish strong as that is what you want to see after a decline. Again we saw a good earnings report by HOOD and the stock, after a good gain today, and the stock is lower in after hours trading. The market did alright today, but there is a lot more work to be done to recover from recent negative market action. Jerry
