The market had a quiet session today before the Fed announcement tomorrow. The major averages opened a little higher but traded around unchanged most of the day before finishing low in their intraday trading ranges. The COMPQ and the NDX fell .07% and .08% respectively. The SPX declined .13%. Volume was mixed, higher on the New York and lower on the NASD. Leading stocks were mostly lower on the day. The leaders index fell .38% on the session. The index closed in the upper half of its trading range on very light volume. The market put in a quiet session today in advance of the Fed tomorrow. A 25 basis point move is pretty much baked in, but there is still the possibility of a 50basis point cut. The latter would be good for the market while the former might trigger a sell the news response. The major averages never traded far from unchanged all day and closed with small declines. This is solid action after recent advances and before important news. Market internals were slightly negative today, but not to bad. Hopefully we will see a friendly report tomorrow. Jerry
