The market opened higher and after moving up a bit some selling came in and the major averages finished off their highs, but still with decent gains. The major averages finished mixed, the New York averages closed in the upper half of their intraday trading ranges and the NASD averages closed low in their trading ranges. Volume was mixed, higher on the New York and about even on the NASD. The COMPQ and the NDX gained .45% and .46% respectively. The SPX was higher by .21%. Leading stocks had a good day as well. The leaders index gained 1.70% on the day. The index closed in the upper half of its trading range on higher and above average volume. Like the major averages the leader’s index has been consolidating in the last couple of weeks, but is holding up well. The market had a good session overall today. The major averages saw solid gains, although they closed well off their highs. The COMPQ made a new high. Leading stocks did well overall, but recent breakouts have produced a mixed picture. The market continues to work its way higher and the rally looks good. We remain in September, which is historically the worst month for the market, but it is holding up well so far. There are some issues out there, but the rally still looks ok for now. There are a lot of inflation numbers coming out later in the week, and that could affect the market. Jerry
