The market had a quiet session yesterday. The major averages opened a bit higher and traded sideways the rest of the day. All the major averages finished little changed and low in their intraday trading ranges. The COMPQ was higher by .05% while the NDX and the SPX fell .07% and .01% respectively. Volume was lower across the board. Leading stocks did better than the overall market. The leaders index gained .52% and closed high in its trading range. Volume was higher and slightly below average. The market took a rest on Friday after a solid up week. The major averages were little changed on the session. Volume was lower across the board, even though it was an options expiration day. This is encouraging as volume was lower when the market consolidated. Leading stocks are struggling a bit as recent breakouts are not producing strong gains. Overall the leaders are holding up as the leaders index made a new high yesterday. The market is extended a bit in the short term, but overall the rally is still on solid ground. Earnings season kicks into full gear next week with several potentially market moving reports coming out. The overall picture looks good, but the major averages are extended from their important moving averages. Jerry
