The market was mostly quiet today before some late selling caused the major averages to close with modest declines. All the major averages finished low in their intraday trading ranges. The COMPQ and the NDX fell .51% and .45% respectively. The SPX lost .56%. Volume was lower across the board. Leading stocks were mixed, but the leaders index was slightly higher with a gain of .13%. The index closed in about the middle of its trading range on lower and below average volume. The market actually did pretty well today. There was a moderate decline on lower volume after a strong advance. That is ok. The market held most of yesterday’s gains. The action today was pretty quiet until a little late selling came in, but the market was waiting for NVDA’s earnings report. The report came in after the close and it seems to be pretty well received. The stock is trading up in the aftermarket, as of this writing. It looks like it could break above a cup and handle base if it trades strong tomorrow. A couple of the major averages are looking the same. I said before that the market could go one of two ways. A V bottom like we saw in 2020 of a more standard bear like we saw in 2022. It is still early, but it is starting to look more like 2020. Jerry
